UAE: Man held for entering restricted area and filming without permit
Footage reportedly sent abroad without authorisation
DUBAI – Competent authorities in Fujairah have apprehended an Arab national for trespassing and conducting filming in restricted areas without the required official permits.
The individual was detected after secretly entering the locations in clear violation of UAE laws and regulations.
Investigations revealed that A.M., who works for a media organisation, had no authorisation to access or record footage in the prohibited sites. Authorities confirmed he used a rented vehicle belonging to a journalist from the Dubai branch of a foreign media company to gain entry.
Illegal filming
Further inquiries showed the recorded material was sent electronically to a London-based news organisation without any official authorisation. The action was reportedly carried out under instructions from the Gulf regional branch manager, B.A., also an Arab national.
Authorities emphasised that entering restricted areas without a permit and recording any material there constitutes a breach of the law. The Public Prosecution has referred the suspect for legal proceedings, highlighting the seriousness of unauthorised media activities in sensitive locations.

The Public Prosecution reiterated the necessity for media personnel and others to secure permits prior to filming, particularly in locations deemed sensitive, to ensure public safety and maintain security.
